Art Students Receive Honors at Annual Exhibit

A handful of UWS undergraduate and graduate art students with works on display in the annual Student Honors Art Exhibit were honored with awards May 6.

Kate Frederickson of Virginia, MN earned Best in Show for her untitled work of acrylic, cloth, and thread.

First Place went to Jessica Manderfeld of Duluth for her bronze sculpture titled “Ribcage.”

Second Place went to Joe Klander of Duluth for a series of eight etchings.

Third Place was awarded to Lyndsie Marsh of Clyman, WI for her photography works titled, “Peer Through My Window” and “Sometimes a Faucet is Just a Faucet.”

Honorable Mention was awarded to Molly Tillotson of Duluth for her wood-and-steel work titled, “View from Spirits Bay.”

Jeremy Wallace of Duluth was also received an Honorable Mention for his ceramic sculpture, “Black and White.”

Alex Haugen of Virginia, MN Haugen received the Graduate Honorable Mention for his series of three works titled “Cards.”

Dean Cadotte of Bayfield, WI earned the Graduate Achievement for his hanging metal sculpture.

Artist Michael Smith was the guest judge at the event this year.

The Student Honors Art Exhibit will be in Kruk Gallery in Holden Fine Arts Center through May 15. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
