There was a dim start at the open mic night on Friday, October 16 in the Rothwell Student Center Concourse, but during the first performance by Joe Cadotte, the crowd started to grow. Cadotte sang four songs, some love songs and one by Radiohead.
Two last minute walk-ins were next, Jeremy and Will. They gave the audience a religious talk on Jesus and how he changed their lives.
Next Ben Holmquist read three poems. Taylor Gombos played the piano. Andrew Swalski played guitar and sang while Nate Bruner juggled.
The Blue House Ladies, a trio group, sang two dedication songs.
Dane and Zach performed a jam session of three songs.
Don Franklin sang a song and played guitar.
Tony Abbott did stand-up comedy or “the spewing of pro-fause propaganda” as he wrote it.
Martin Minteer did some cartoon voices and impressions then sang a song with Ben Birdseye as Ben played the guitar.
Andrew Kirov performed stand-up comedy, improve and a mock interview with Ben Birdseye, his audience volenteer.
Brad Apfel played the blues guitar while singing two songs.
Gyusuing Sim sang two songs, one in Korean and the other in English as did Dong Woo Kuron.
Robert Young sang a ‘sing-a-long’ tune of “They’re Coming to Take me Away, Ha Ha.”
Jordan Rastetter sang a Halloween song by Type O’ Negative and Mickey ended the list of performers with another Halloween song and a tune on sex and beer.
The crowd had dwindled substantially by then and he called the remaining bunch up to the front and they finished the night on a more personal jam note.
Throughout the night YAK members Cory Mareno and Rachael Olson brought Halloween candy in a cauldron and scoped out partakers for their drawing and or to sign up to perform for the nights event.
