On Tues., Feb. 23, the 5th Annual Health and Wellness Expo was held in the Health and Wellness Center.
There were about 80 students, faculty and staff that made a trip through the expo.
Kristi Patterson, Campus Recreation Assistant Director, said that keeping healthy is a lot more than just being physically fit.
“As a person in general, there is tons of research that proves that the more "well" a person is, the better person they are to be with. A well maintained body allows you to sleep better, be more productive at work or class, you are less likely to be sick or injured, and you have greater risk of a longer life. All of these physical benefits have strong impacts on your mental and spiritual strengths as well,” said Patterson.
Patterson also stated that the goal of the expo is to expose the campus to the many opportunities in the community that can help people stay fit, be active, and recognize the benefits of healthy lifestyles.
Saint Mary’s Medical Center of Superior, who offers free general medical care to UWS students chose to be in attendance, because students need to learn a healthly life style and how to help mantain their body through wellness. Most students who stopped by the fair were happy to learn of ways to stay healthy through school’s stressful times
The following booths were in attendance this year: Superior Fusion, AJ’s Tanning, Memorial Blood Center, LSC Dental Hygiene Department, La Peinado, Luke Chiropractic, Comfort Zone Therapeutic Massage, Acupuncture Therapy, UWS Health and Counseling Department, UWS Campus Recreation, UWS Women’s Equity Center, UWS Happy Health People Student Organization, Lake Superior Chiropractic, SMDC-Superior, and Aviand’s Food Service Dietician. There were also free blood pressure checks from our UWS Health and Human Pperformance Students.
