The University of Wisconsin-Superior Office of Multicultural Affairs, First Nations Center and Visual Arts Department will be hosting the 14th Annual American Indian Art Scholarship Exhibit at the Kruk Art Gallery from April 7 to April 28 from 9 am to 4 pm, on weekdays only.
The exhibit features art work from area Native American high school and professional artists.
This is the eleventh year that a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an exceptional high school artist.
A “People’s Choice Award” will also be given, as decided on votes from those who visit the display. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony on April 28.
UWS Multicultural Student Specialist Yvonne Vainio is the coordinator for this event.
She says this event is important because it introduces them to UWS, to professional artists and to the public.
“With having the students’ artwork next to a professional artist’s, it is empowering! We hope that it encourages them to continue their work at the next level and it’s always important to think about the future,” said Vainio.
