You cast your vote, and now the results of the Student Government Association's special election are in.
Ben Mooney is the new Senator at Large; Seugjin Choy is one of the senators for the Accounting-Finance-Business Administration-Elementary Education seat; and there is a three-way tie for the second position between Adam Herubin, Tooj Vang, and Nick Wobig.
Shannon McEvoy won her bid for the Arts seat, with Katelyn Baumann taking the second seat on write-in votes. It is not determined if she will accept the position. Yer Vang was the clear winner for the Politics-Law and Justice-Social Inquiry-Human Behavior and Diversity seat with 30 votes, with James Wittling coming in second with 18 votes.
Over 260 votes were cast, compared with last year's regular election total of around 180 votes. Senator Jake Lindberg says that more locations seemed to have made the difference; Swenson Hall was selected as a site because so many students have classes in that building. Holden Fine Arts was an important site because many students that have classes there tend to stay in the building for most of the day. Although logistics worked against it, Markovich Wellness Center was another planned voting site, because the Athletics Department “tends to be more centralized,” Lindberg said, with those students rarely leaving the building.
The SGA has to officially approve the election results on Monday at their next regular meeting, and then the successful candidates will be sworn in.
The SGA executive cabinet still has positions open for those people who want to get involved with the Student Government Association.
