It's Wednesday! Is anyone else as excited as I am about this? Never mind; that's a rhetorical question.

Pretty much everything is closing up early tonight and won't be open again until the weekend. I know that JDH, the MWC, Jacket Java, the Brick Oven Grille and the Cafeteria are all closing up shop. Check out the school website for a full list of closures and plan accordingly.

There's a big Thanksgiving sale at Yellowjacket Book and Supply today and Friday. Early birds get a special gift if they buy $50 or more's worth of hooded sweatshirts, decals and mugs. Or something along those lines.

Aaand that's it. Have a fantastic break, everybody; I know I will!

Anybody out there? Bueller?

There's still time to sign up for the Alternative Spring Break going out to Flathead Valley, Montana, to work with Habitat for Humanity. Applications are at the YU Info desk. Deadline is Dec. 1st. Don't put it off!

The Caf and Brick Oven close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, and Jacket Java shuts down at 4. Caf and Java re-open at 2 on Sunday, with the Brick Oven Grille opening at 4. Plan ahead.

Library is closing at 4:30 on Wednesday and re-opening at 5 on Sunday. Go check out many, many books. Plan ahead.

Marco Water-polo Center closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday and opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Means something.

That's it for me. Drive safely, bag a big buck, and fall as deep into thankfullness as you can.

Three days until Thanksgiving! Really looking forward to having some pumpkin pie.

The German Club is hosting a free movie with pizza tonight in the Multicultural Center. There will be a language table at 6 p.m., followed by 'Der Rote Baron' at 7 p.m.

You can apply for the Alternative Spring Break 2012 until December 1. The destination this year is Kalispell, Montana where UW-Superior students will be once again working with Habitat for Humanity.

You can also register to be certified or re-certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). The workshop is discounted for students and university employees, so get your application in today! It's always a good thing to have.

Have a great day!

Thursday! Thursday! “Just one more day” day!

First things first: It's the Great American Smoke-Out today. Be kind. Be tolerant. Duck, when appropriate.

And also beware: The cable guy is coming. Service will be out for a few hours. I don't think it will affect the dorms, but you should be at class if it goes out there.

There's a cool thing going on at the Swenson Gathering Place – a tree with leaves representing something someone's grateful for! I can think of a ton of things. I'll be stopping by tomorrow to tie a leaf on. It goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is being put on by Student Health and Counseling.

Gender Equity will have a table up in the YU over lunch today and Friday, working to make our campus a safe place for everyone. Stop by and take the pledge.

Open Mic night is tonight starting at 8 p.m. in the YU. Usually a good time. Check it out.

There you have it. Now, go do something nice!

Lots of lunchtime stuff going on today!

Random Acts of Kindness Week is being celebrated over in the Swenson Hall Gathering Area, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sure to brighten up your day.

The Superior Stew Forum is being held from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, 232 Old Main.

Gender Equity is working to change the language we use. Stop by and talk about words that heal, not hurt, over the noon hour in the Yellowjacket Union. Lots of ways to play.

For some reason, the Writing Center is promoting NaNoWriMo - National November Writing Month. I don't think they expect you to finish a novel in three hours, but they will have other wordish things aside from writing for you to do. It's in Swenson 1030 from 5 to 8 p.m. Sponsored by UW-Superior Writing Center, the Writing Program, and English Club.

And enough with the words, already! Bring on the drums! Percussion and Steel Drum Ensemble concert, 7:30 pm, Thorpe Langely, Old Main. Adults $5, students and Seniors $3.

Have a good day, and spread a little joy.

Welcome to Monday! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and is ready for another fun-filled week of activities! Oh; and school. Here's what's happening today.

For one, this week is Words Hurt Week. Gender Equity challenges everyone on campus to keep degrading  words out of our conversations, and not allow others to do such. There will be a table in the YU from noon to 1 p.m. every day this week where you can stop by to sign a pledge and poster campaign as a way to make campus more welcoming and safe. You can also make a t-shirt at 7 p.m. tonight in the Gender Equity Center, Swenson 1031.

There are three climate survey forums today: one for non-teaching academic staff from 10 to 11 a.m.; one for women from 2 to 3 p.m.; and one for all students from 4 to 5 p.m.  All forums will be held in YU 202.

Comedian Tig Notaro will be performing stand-up at 8 p.m. in the YU Shippar Atrium tonight. Notaro has been on such television programs as 'The Sarah Silverman Program', 'Last Comic Standing', and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', among others. Sounds like a grand old time!

Have a great day!

Hey there! Long time no see; apologies for that. We've been working on our magazine, coming soon to a news stand near you! Meanwhile, keep up on events with the Buzz!

Today is Veteran's Day, and in recognition of this important day there will be a Veteran's Day Honoring Ceremony at noon at the flagpole between McCaskill Hall and the Holden Fine Arts Center. This is open to the public, so come show your appreciation for our veterans.

There are a couple of climate survey discussion forums for teaching academic staff: one from 10 to 11 a.m. and another from 2 to 3 p.m. The committee of these forums are searching for input on which issues to focus their energies on in the coming semester.

This Saturday marks a big event at UWS; I'm talking about Cultural Night! Cultural Night is in it's 15th year, and this year's theme is 'A World in Color'. Tickets have been on sale all week, but they will also be available at the door. Plus, you can get tickets for both the pre-show reception AND the show, but those might be gone by now. Some of the events are clogging, Japanese Fishing Dance, Brazilian Oração song, and many other promising performances.

I hope everyone has a fantastic and relaxing weekend. See you back here on Monday!

What a great weekend! An extra hour of sleep (I was still awake at 9 a.m.), and the Packers going 8-0; can't complain! I don't really want to start a new week, but we have to keep chugging along. Let's see what's going on today.

Registration starts today, so if you haven't set up an appointment with your adviser you should do that ASAP. Being prepared will help you avoid waiting lists and closed classes, so check your E-hive Student Center to make sure you don't have any holds and to print off a current copy of your progress report.

Are you an outdoorsy person who is concerned about survival? Join SOAP this evening from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union to learn how to make a free survival bracelet. I'm not sure what it is, but apparently it will help you survive in a pinch, and who doesn't like multi-tasking jewelry?

Today is also the last day to pay tuition at the Cashier's office in Old Main, and there will be some lovely marimba music being played by Brazilian marimbist Gilmar Goulart tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Webb Recital Hall in the Holden Fine Arts Center.

Only two more weeks until Thanksgiving, and then a month until semester break! Keep breathing.

I'm sure you've all heard about some of the changes happening on campus, as well as on campuses across the state. It's an important time to keep up with events and news.

That being said, there is an open forum on the budget lapse at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in room 1012 of Swenson Hall. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Friday sports include a women's hockey game against Lake Forest College at 4 p.m., as well as  a men's hockey game at 7:35 p.m. against St. Olaf College. Both games will be played at Wessman Arena.

Top vocalists from high schools around the tri-state area are joining the UW-Superior choirs today to practice and develop their music skills under the the direction of Dr. Karle Erickson, a highly acclaimed director and highly sought after clinician. Both high school and college students will then take to the stage for a concert at 7:30 p.m.

Have a fantastic weekend, and don't forget that Daylight Saving's Time ends on Sunday; hooray for an extra hour of sleep!

Hey guys -

Sorry. Nothing happening anymore. Some budget thing. Nobody's really explaining it, or telling us much of anything. They're just cancelling everything.

By the way, no bright colors are allowed any more.

Go do the best you can. We understand.
