Hey there! Long time no see; apologies for that. We've been working on our magazine, coming soon to a news stand near you! Meanwhile, keep up on events with the Buzz!

Today is Veteran's Day, and in recognition of this important day there will be a Veteran's Day Honoring Ceremony at noon at the flagpole between McCaskill Hall and the Holden Fine Arts Center. This is open to the public, so come show your appreciation for our veterans.

There are a couple of climate survey discussion forums for teaching academic staff: one from 10 to 11 a.m. and another from 2 to 3 p.m. The committee of these forums are searching for input on which issues to focus their energies on in the coming semester.

This Saturday marks a big event at UWS; I'm talking about Cultural Night! Cultural Night is in it's 15th year, and this year's theme is 'A World in Color'. Tickets have been on sale all week, but they will also be available at the door. Plus, you can get tickets for both the pre-show reception AND the show, but those might be gone by now. Some of the events are clogging, Japanese Fishing Dance, Brazilian Oração song, and many other promising performances.

I hope everyone has a fantastic and relaxing weekend. See you back here on Monday!

What a great weekend! An extra hour of sleep (I was still awake at 9 a.m.), and the Packers going 8-0; can't complain! I don't really want to start a new week, but we have to keep chugging along. Let's see what's going on today.

Registration starts today, so if you haven't set up an appointment with your adviser you should do that ASAP. Being prepared will help you avoid waiting lists and closed classes, so check your E-hive Student Center to make sure you don't have any holds and to print off a current copy of your progress report.

Are you an outdoorsy person who is concerned about survival? Join SOAP this evening from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union to learn how to make a free survival bracelet. I'm not sure what it is, but apparently it will help you survive in a pinch, and who doesn't like multi-tasking jewelry?

Today is also the last day to pay tuition at the Cashier's office in Old Main, and there will be some lovely marimba music being played by Brazilian marimbist Gilmar Goulart tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Webb Recital Hall in the Holden Fine Arts Center.

Only two more weeks until Thanksgiving, and then a month until semester break! Keep breathing.

I'm sure you've all heard about some of the changes happening on campus, as well as on campuses across the state. It's an important time to keep up with events and news.

That being said, there is an open forum on the budget lapse at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in room 1012 of Swenson Hall. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Friday sports include a women's hockey game against Lake Forest College at 4 p.m., as well as  a men's hockey game at 7:35 p.m. against St. Olaf College. Both games will be played at Wessman Arena.

Top vocalists from high schools around the tri-state area are joining the UW-Superior choirs today to practice and develop their music skills under the the direction of Dr. Karle Erickson, a highly acclaimed director and highly sought after clinician. Both high school and college students will then take to the stage for a concert at 7:30 p.m.

Have a fantastic weekend, and don't forget that Daylight Saving's Time ends on Sunday; hooray for an extra hour of sleep!

Hey guys -

Sorry. Nothing happening anymore. Some budget thing. Nobody's really explaining it, or telling us much of anything. They're just cancelling everything.

By the way, no bright colors are allowed any more.

Go do the best you can. We understand.

Hello there! I hope the week has been treating you all well. Let's get right down to it and see what's going on today at UWS.

Love winter, Christmas, and volunteering? (Or even just Christmas and volunteering...) If so, consider joining the Winterfest Committee. Winterfest is a huge event that is  open to the public and allows UWS to give back to the community. If being on the committee doesn't suit you, there are plenty of other volunteer opportunities. Keep an eye out here or on the school website.

We all know that healthy eating habits are important, but it can be really hard to keep up with when you're in college. That's why Campus Rec is here to keep us all on top of it. They'll be holding a seminar in MWC room 2420 from 12 to 1 p.m. today to discuss healthy eating habits and how you can make them work for you. Free health advice? Can't beat that.

The Business and Economics Department is having a Chili and Soup Cook Off today. I don't know where, or when. I just know it's happening because it says so on the homepage.

That's all for today's Buzz! Remember to sign up for Spring Registration - it's quickly approaching!

I don't know. Not much going on around campus. It's like they want us to study or something. This is what I've got.

The Chancellor's Inclusive Excellence Task Force will be having a Brown Bag meeting at noon in YU 203 to talk about the results of the Campus Climate Survey and what steps should be taken next.

The women's hockey team is playing against the University of St. Thomas at 7 p.m. tonight at Wessman Arena. The women's team is 1-1, so it should be a good game. Remember, you get free admission as a UW-Superior student. Take advantage of it!

So. Work hard, remember there's something outside that textbook, and do something good.

Like I said, there is more going on this weekend than there was this week. Take a look for yourself.

First off, it's a huge weekend for sports. There's actually too much for me to post here, so check out this link for more info: http://www.uwsuper.edu/news/jacket-action---huge-sports-weekend_article1346040  Good luck to our teams!

Next order of business: The Monster Ball! The Yellowjacket Activities Crew Annual Dance is tonight (Friday) from 8 until 11 p.m. in the YU Great Room. There will be games, contests, refreshments, and of course dancing. It's a fun alternative to sitting in a crowded, smelly basement with people you don't know, and not nearly as scary (if you discount the vampires, ghosts and what-have-you).

If you're still in the Halloween spirit on Sunday, there is Spooky Skate at Wessman Arena, just off of campus, from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost to get in is $4 with a costume, $5 without, and you can rent skates for $2 a pair. Remember, this is ice skating we're talking about.

Well...maybe I'm thinking there's a lot going on because of my own packed schedule. If your own planner is filled with numerous Halloween parties, please remember to be safe and responsible. Overall, though, have a fun and memorable Halloween weekend!

The reception for William P. Morgan's show in the Kruk Gallery is today in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Building from 6 to 8 p.m.

Aside from that, it's 57 days till winter break. Better get cracking.

Have a nice day! And do your part to make the world better.

Alright; a pretty slow day again. I think this whole week is going to be pretty quiet, but all of the Halloween activities this weekend should make up for it.

This week is Domestic Violence Awareness Week; just bringing it up now, since I missed it on Monday. Domestic violence is a very serious issue which I personally feel strongly about, so if you don't know much about it or would like to learn more, stop by the information table in the Yellowjacket Union all this week. Also check out the related Clothesline Project.

There will be an International Poetry Reading today at the Erlenbach Gathering Area on the first floor of Swenson Hall from noon to 1 p.m. Students, staff and faculty will be reading poetry from different parts of the world in different languages. It seems like a pretty great cultural experience!

Career Services will be in the Marcovich Wellness Center all day today. You can stop by for assistance with all sorts of stuff, like choosing a major, resume reviews, and interviewing skills. If you need help with any of these, go see Career Services!

Aaaaand that's it for the day. Keep up the hard work!

Wow. It's a quiet day on campus. They must want us to study or something. Heathens. Oh, well. It's just one day. We can humor them.

There's always stuff going on in the YU Atrium, and I know there will be more than this, but this one is important. Stop by the Clothesline Project, a joint effort of the Center Against Sexual and Domectic Abuse (CASDA) and the Gender Equity Center, talking about the effects of domestic violence.

Keep your outdoor mojo going! The UW-Superior Outdoor Adventure Program, or SOAP, will be demonstrating how to make your own firestarters out of recycled materials. Quick, fun and effective. This is at the SOAP office, Markovich Wellness Center 1438, starting promptly at 7 p.m.

Last but not least, the UW-Superior Orchestra will be performing spooky music to keep you in the holiday mood. Tickets to listen to Meyer, Mendelssohn and Schubert's “Death of a Maiden” performed by the UW-Superior Camerata are $5 for adults and $3  for students and seniors.

Like one of my teachers told me, WE'RE HALF-WAY THROUGH THE TERM!!!!! I want it to be over, but I'VE GOT TOO MUCH TO DO!!!

In the meantime, take a deep breath and let's go make the world a better place.
