Lucy Roberts Editor in Chief Hello there! Glad to see everyone made it through another week. Let's see what's going on this weekend. E-Hive and PeopleSoft will be down for maintenance today starting at 1 p.m. Plan accordingly. There are two hockey games this weekend: one on Friday and one on Saturday. Both games feature the men's hockey team going stick-to-stick with UW-River Falls. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on both nights at Wessman Arena. The University choirs are holding their annual Celebration of the Season concert on Sunday at 4 p.m. and again on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The performances take place at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior at the corner of Grand and Belknap. This is one you definitely don't want to miss out on! Here's a tip to save your sanity as you prepare for finals: take a break this weekend and go to Bentleyville to look at the lights and get some hot chocolate. You'll feel a ton better, and you'll do better on your exams, papers and what-have-you. Have a good one! The Daily Buzz 12/01/2011

Lucy Roberts Editor in Chief It's Wednesday! Is anyone else as excited as I am about this? Never mind; that's a rhetorical question. Pretty much everything is closing up early tonight and won't be open again until the weekend. I know that JDH, the MWC, Jacket Java, the Brick Oven Grille and the Cafeteria are all closing up shop. Check out the school website for a full list of closures and plan accordingly. There's a big Thanksgiving sale at Yellowjacket Book and Supply today and Friday. Early birds get a special gift if they buy $50 or more's worth of hooded sweatshirts, decals and mugs. Or something along those lines. Aaand that's it. Have a fantastic break, everybody; I know I will! The Daily Buzz 11/22/2011
Kirsten Scheid Managing Editor Anybody out there? Bueller? There's still time to sign up for the Alternative Spring Break going out to Flathead Valley, Montana, to work with Habitat for Humanity. Plan ahead. Marco Water-polo Center closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday and opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Means something. That's it for me. Drive safely, bag a big buck, and fall as deep into thankfullness as you can. The Daily Buzz 11/21/2011
Lucy Roberts Editor in Chief Three days until Thanksgiving! Really looking forward to having some pumpkin pie. The German Club is hosting a free movie with pizza tonight in the Multicultural Center. The workshop is discounted for students and university employees, so get your application in today! It's always a good thing to have. Have a great day! The Daily Buzz 11/17/2011
Kirsten Scheid Managing Editor Thursday! Thursday! “Just one more day” day! First things first: It's the Great American Smoke-Out today. Be kind. Be tolerant. Duck, when appropriate. And also beware: The cable guy is coming. Service will be out for a few hours. I don't think it will affect the dorms, but you should be at class if it goes out there. There's a cool thing going on at the Swenson Gathering Place – a tree with leaves representing something someone's grateful for! I can think of a ton of things. I'll be stopping by tomorrow to tie a leaf on. It goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is being put on by Student Health and Counseling. Gender Equity will have a table up in the YU over lunch today and Friday, working to make our campus a safe place for everyone. Stop by and take the pledge. Open Mic night is tonight starting at 8 p.m. in the YU. Usually a good time. Check it out. There you have it. Now, go do something nice! The Daily Buzz 11/15/2011
Kirsten Scheid Managing Editor Lots of lunchtime stuff going on today! Random Acts of Kindness Week is being celebrated over in the Swenson Hall Gathering Area, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sure to brighten up your day. The Superior Stew Forum is being held from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, 232 Old Main. Gender Equity is working to change the language we use. Stop by and talk about words that heal, not hurt, over the noon hour in the Yellowjacket Union. Lots of ways to play. For some reason, the Writing Center is promoting NaNoWriMo - National November Writing Month. I don't think they expect you to finish a novel in three hours, but they will have other wordish things aside from writing for you to do. It's in Swenson 1030 from 5 to 8 p.m. Sponsored by UW-Superior Writing Center, the Writing Program, and English Club. And enough with the words, already! Bring on the drums! Percussion and Steel Drum Ensemble concert, 7:30 pm, Thorpe Langely, Old Main. Adults $5, students and Seniors $3. Have a good day, and spread a little joy. The Daily Buzz 11/14/2011
Lucy Roberts Editor in Chief Welcome to Monday! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and is ready for another fun-filled week of activities! Oh; and school. Here's what's happening today. For one, this week is Words Hurt Week. Gender Equity challenges everyone on campus to keep degrading words out of our conversations, and not allow others to do such. There will be a table in the YU from noon to 1 p.m. every day this week where you can stop by to sign a pledge and poster campaign as a way to make campus more welcoming and safe. You can also make a t-shirt at 7 p.m. tonight in the Gender Equity Center, Swenson 1031. There are three climate survey forums today: one for non-teaching academic staff from 10 to 11 a.m.; one for women from 2 to 3 p.m.; and one for all students from 4 to 5 p.m. All forums will be held in YU 202. Comedian Tig Notaro will be performing stand-up at 8 p.m. in the YU Shippar Atrium tonight. Notaro has been on such television programs as 'The Sarah Silverman Program', 'Last Comic Standing', and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', among others. Sounds like a grand old time!
